Building community resilience: From vulnerability to adaptation strategies to the risks of land erosion in Assinie (south-eastern coast of Côte d’Ivoire)

Abstract
The objective of this study is to analyze the process of community building resilience with regard to local and technological knowledge in terms of disaster risk management and community adaptation strategies in Assinie South-East Coastal of Côte d’ivoire. In a qualitative approach, data highlighting the vulnerability of the socio-ecological system and the proactive, reactive and post-active resilience capacities practiced by the local communities of Assinie in their living space disturbed by the phenomenon of erosion land was used. This study revealed a process of community resilience with weak mobilization of the capacities of anticipation and preparation of the actors before the occurrence of a disaster event, with efforts in terms of reactive provisions of these but spontaneous, ephemeral and derisory during tidal waves and post-active actions deployed through international programs and public policies for the integrated management of coastal zones, the implementation of which is not systematic.
